Developed by the Maori, a New Zealand tribe, as combat training, Poi is now a popular urban hobby that is a great workout and performance art.
In Poi, you spin a pair of tethered weights, sometimes lit up, to create beautiful patterns in the air. And in this one day workshop you will learn to perform with glow Poi, which use LED lights to create magnificent light patterns.
Your workshop is conducted outdoors and in public space. This is important since you would practice Poi outdoors and should get used to spinning while being aware of your surroundings.
Your instructor will start of by explaining the basics of Poi and get you to try a few moves, including together spins and split spins. As you learn, you’ll find your self moving and swaying to the hypnotic rhythm of your Poi.
Once you’ve mastered the moves, it is time to lit up the night. We now switch to glow poi and all of a sudden your moves become beautiful pieces of art in light.
Feel free to bring a camera along and even an MP3 player so you can practice with music. The Glow Poi Workshop is also a fun way to begin an evening out with friends.
